Contraindications for Eyelash Extensions Application

At Milash Brisbane, as experienced lash technicians, our primary concern is the health and safety of our clients. There are certain contraindications that may prevent us from applying eyelash extensions in order to protect your well-being. Below are some of the contraindications we carefully consider before proceeding with the application:

  • Contact Lenses:
If you wear contact lenses, it is usually recommended that you remove them before getting eyelash extensions. This precaution helps prevent any discomfort or complications during the application process and ensures a smooth, comfortable experience.

  • Conjunctivitis:
Also known as "pink eye," conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. It is a contagious condition that requires immediate medical attention. In the presence of conjunctivitis, we postpone the lash extension application until the infection clears to prevent further irritation and the potential spread of the infection.

  • Styes:
Styes are tender, red bumps that typically appear on the eyelid, often as a result of a bacterial infection. In such cases, it is advisable to wait until the stye has resolved before proceeding with eyelash extensions, as applying extensions to an infected area can exacerbate the condition and delay the healing process.

  • Laser Eye Surgery:
If you have recently undergone laser eye surgery, we recommend waiting until the healing process is complete before considering eyelash extensions. During this time, your eyes may be more sensitive and prone to discomfort, making it advisable to postpone the application for a safer and more comfortable experience.

  • Lice:
The presence of lice on the eyelashes requires immediate treatment by a medical professional. In such cases, lash extension application should be postponed until the lice infestation has been completely eradicated. This measure is important to prioritize your health, prevent the lice from spreading, and ensure a clean environment for the application.

  • Dermatitis:
Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin, often causing itching and redness. If you have an active dermatitis flare-up near the eye area, it is advisable to delay the lash extension application until the skin condition subsides, as applying extensions during this time may further irritate the skin and delay the healing process.

In summary, these contraindications serve as precautionary measures to ensure your well-being and the optimal outcome of your lashes.
